From a digger’s camp of 300 in 1924, Mount Isa is a vibrant and progressive city of more than 23,500 and the administrative, commercial and industrial centre of north-west Queensland.

The establishment of Mount Isa Mines Ltd in January 1924 harnessed the region’s mining potential, and although the community weathered 30 years of struggle for its very survival, it grew to become the cornerstone of Queensland’s economy, the backbone of the State’s most profitable railway, and in the 1950s, Australia’s largest single creator of export income.

Mount Isa brings out the adventurous spirit in everyone, with ample places to explore and discover, fish, camp, 4WD, or sit back and enjoy an amazing Outback sunset.
